Another musician hailing from South London, Elviin brings a soulful song reminiscent of an old 70’s soul singer. The only thing I can come close to comparing his sound to is Robin Thicke, that soft spoken soul but with the ability to hit different chords at various paces, meaning he can sing an upbeat song just as good as he can give you something soulful. Almost something of a blues and jazz sound mashed together with some British spices sprinkled on top (makes sense? doesn’t really matter).
I’m not much fan of the snow these days too many dreadful memories of having to shovel the driveway off multiple times during winter. But when I saw the ICEHOTEL I immediately wanted to buy me some snow gear and head out to Jukkasjarvi, Sweden, which is 200 kilometers north of the arctic circle. The ICEHOTEL was conjured up by group of foreigners who stayed in an igloo one night, and the rest is ICEHOTEL history. The hotel is rebuilt every year from scracth, artists, architects and designers from all over go to Jukkasjarvi to build the ICEHOTEL out of water and ice from the River Torne. Each year the hotel takes on a whole new look and interior based on view of the designers and architects working on it. You can view more images of the current ICEHOTEL here, plus a little video.
Designer Sungwoo Park created the Voice Stick which uses optical recognition of characters that allows the words on the page to be translated and read into the headphones. The Voice Stick’s purpose is to help those individuals who are visually impaired, so they can read books, magazines, newspapers, etc. with much more ease and comfort.
Method always makes some of the best cleaning products in the world keeping a focus on health and design. Actually Method was way above the curve when it came to using design as a focal point in there company. Before it was cool to have design centric products Method made sure to have their products stand out visually. And I just love their motto, “Method people against dirty”.
For the Prada Trembled Blossoms Bag, Prada put together this video to help launch the bag. Only a few people were lucky enough to actually get the invite and see the video at its first airing at the Prada ‘SoHo Epicenter’ store in New York. Prada is doing its best to get back at the tops of the luxury market or maybe they’re trying to sketch out a new section for themselves, aiming at a more artistic evolution and aesthetic with all these artist collaborations and projects, like this short film, which in itself is a nice piece of artistic work. Now, is it the best marketing move? I’m still scratching my head at that, I’m not sure how exactly a virtual girls journey where a fish that turns into a handbag and a creature-ish man of some sorts makes an appearance is going to make people buy an expensive bag, a bag that has a relatively simple/basic design. But I do give credit to Prada for trying, and the film was interesting.
I was in 7-eleven this past saturday and saw this very cool looking can/bottle type thing. So when I got a closer look at it, it was flavored water in a clear plastic ’soda can sized’ bottle with a regular aluminum can top. I’ve never seen that before a plastic bottle with a regular can top, it was by far the coolest bottle design I’ve seen in years. And on top of that the flavored water (I had cherry) was really good too, so a great bottle design plus a great tasting product, FlavH2O is going to make a huge splash over the coming years. I’m already a fan, the only bad thing is the distribution is odd because it was only in that one 7-eleven store I bought it at, I’ve been to 3 other 7-elevens and I haven’t seen it. So I’m not exactly sure if you’ll be able to get it in your local 7-eleven but it can’t hurt to peak your head in and try to see if you can find it.
I’m sure you’ve all seen images of the Nokia 888 concept cell phone design created by Turkish student Tamer Nakisci, but the above video shows how the Nokia 888 would functionally work if you had it and show some of the capabilities it would handle. If you want to see more concept cell phone designs like a maple wood cell phone or a scroll cell concept (also pictured after the jump) you can just click here.
