Landscape Art

Landscape art is what I’m calling these series of works by LA artist Joshua Callaghan. He’s making ordinary objects, like a street utility box, into blending art works, the works blend in with the natural environmental surroundings of the object that’s getting Callaghan’s vinyl graphic put on.

Jean Shin: TEXTile

Categories: Art

This 26ft interactive sculpture piece done by Jean Shin for The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia used thousands (22,528) of recycled computer keycaps and 192 custom keycaps. The keys spell out line by line the email correspondents between Jean Shin and the museum regarding making the exhibition. So in a sense the process of making the piece is actually the cause of the piece in the first place, using it’s own making to be the final end piece to it all. You can also type new messages that will show up on the monitor allowing you to continue the conversation that was started between Shin and the museum. TEXTile images after jump.

Los Carpinteros

Categories: Art

So apparently I don’t watch as much TV or am as global as I thought, but good thing other people are. Like K-Fresh, I was on her site looking around when I ran across this all grenade-wood jewelry box made by an art group out of Cuba known as Los Carpinteros. There work is amazing and you can go visit their site here or even better look at this feature done by Frontline/world about the Cuban art revolution.

What Could Be

Categories: Art

Have you ever wondered what it be like if cartoons were real, would bugs bunny be like one of the coolest dudes ever, would elmer fud get protested on by PETA, would donald duck be that dumb ass who never seems to go away, would wiley cyote have a good health insurance, who knows. Do I wish they could be real, sure, why not I’d like to get  CC and coke with bugs any day, but since that will never happen we can aleast imagine some what through art. There’s an exhibition up at the natural history museum in Basel, Switzerland that imagines what the bone structure of cartoons would be if they were real.
