This is an animated optical illusions book, and this video is a full on guide to the book. Just watch, do a little reading at the top, and then be slightly amazed while trying to figure if you should get this for yourself or a child or if you have kids buy it for your kid and use it for yourself. It mixes images, blends various styles all under one cover, giving you a truly unexpected feeling before you turn the pages. I’ve already declared my love for pop-up books once before on TTS, but here I am again telling you how much I just love pop-ups. This time its, ABC3D, an alphabet pop-up book, the book takes you the letter ‘A’ to the letter ‘Z’ with each letter having it’s own intricate designed pop-up. Great for kids, even greater for adults, ha, we like to have fun too.
Here is your second installment of “new” website updates for the morning, Good magazine has a new site and even a new web address. Now, Good magazines new home web address is Good.is, the new site is easy to navigate and is broken down into a few simple categories, magazine, blog, video, events, community. The video section of the new site is already loaded with a bunch of videos ranching from political spoofs to documentary type sets like its “on skid row” series. At the very top of the website you can hit the “choose good” button and it will take you to Good magazines charity section, since they’ve launched they have been trying to reach 1 million in charity by giving up the magazines membership money to its non-profit partners. The section has all the organizations Good has been partnering with, and if you click on one of the organizations logo’s you’ll be able to read up on what they’re trying to do too better this world. Now go have a good time on the good website and make sure to pick up Good magazine, ha, I’m so good at this good stuff. You know how when you go to people’s house’s you can tell what type of person they are when you see the books and magazine spread around the house and on the coffee table. We all know you’re a little nerdy when we see a GEEK mag stuffed between your TV guide magazines, but it’s ok. And if you see the entire collection of Harry Potter novels in a group set accompanied by collectables, well, lets just say you have A LOT! of free time on your hands and probably have a harry potter costume in the cloest. But if you want to let people know you’re creative and artsy, then having a copy of artist Jeff Soto’s new book, Storm Clouds, is what you want. The book is 154 pages of the last 3 years of work Soto has been doing. Plus staring at amazing imagery is a great source of inspiration or at least it is to me, and also a nice reminder of how much I’m not artistic. One of the most creative publications in the world, Visionaire, hooked up with one of my favorite fashion publications, JC Report. Justin Campbell of JC Report caught up with Cecilia Dean, editor/co-founder of Visionaire magazine, and put together a really good interview. It talks about the beginning of Visionaire, how thay’ve managed to stay independent for 17 years, and their crazy creative process. They’re one of the most creative pblications in the world, and they are a steady flow of creativity and inspiration, just take for instance their next issue will be the very first Pop-Up magazine issue ever, at least to my knowledge.
The Visionaire website is pretty amazing right now, for it’s issue 54 in collaboration with Lacoste they put together a series of limited shirts. The shirts are photo-centric images applied onto Lacoste polos, this there 54th issue, is supposed to be dubbed as a wearable publication. The artwork on the Lacoste polos are from artist, photographers, designers, musicians and a filmmaker, the likes of which are Nick Knight, Peter Lindbergh, Phil Poynter, Thomas Ruff, Karl Lagerfeld, Pedro Almodovar, David Byrne and Michael Stipe to name a few. The shirts are broken down into 4 different sets and within the pages of each of them you’ll find 3 shirts. And people say print will be dead soon, not if they putting out work like this. Also loving the song on the website, I wish I knew who sings it.
I love fashion magazines, all types of fashion magazines, and one reason I look forward to opening a fashion mag is to look through its fashion spreads. The photography work in those magazines is just simply amazing and eye engaging (you like that one didn’t you?). Now if you head over to FASHIONATION the sister site of The Cool Hunter, you will be able to see spreads from various fashion magazines, from all over the world.
Alison Jackson has photographed countless celebrities, Madonna, President Bush, the Queen of England and many more, and there all fakes, yep. Alison photographs look-a-likes of famous people, very good look-a-likes but look-a-likes they are, and she puts them in positions or situations that we either know the person does but we would never see or something just funny if that person was caught doing it. Like Mick Jagger doing gymnastics and the most famous of them all (in my opinion) Queen Elizabeth sitting on the toilet. Remember as a child how much you loved pop-up books, how you could spends hours just closing and opening the book on your favorite pages. And then your parents did the unthinkable they told that you were too old for pop-up books; from that point on it just seems like all your hopes and dreams in the world just shattered to pieces. You were doomed to a 2 dimensional world with things you could only look at but not touch. But ha, how all our parents were so wrong we aren’t too old for pop-up books we just needed age appropriate pop-up books and thanks to Anton Radevsky and David Sokol for making “The Modern Architecture Pop-Up Book”, we have that book now. The book has 20 notable architectural structured pop-ups including works by famed architects such as Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
