Rag Chair

Categories: Design

One mans trash is another mans treasure and one mans rags is another mans chair. Layered from 15 bags of rags the chair comes already put together but each person has the option of adding their own rags/shit you want to throw away onto the chair, making the chair even bigger and even more raggedy.

Most Influential Designers

Categories: Design

The most influential designers in our lifetime, I’m not a fan of everyone who made the list but I definitely am a fan of some. The top 5 are interesting but it’s really the “runners up” who are the more maybe questionable ones in that grouping. Take a look at the list and make your own top 5 if you want, this is a democracy, a broke ass democracy, but a democracy none the less.

Fig Shaped Lamps

Categories: Design

Great thing about the internet you can find anything, anything you want, or may not even known you wanted. But that’s what it does it brings things to you that you never expected, like these fig shaped lamps, but another thing the internet does, it brings you languages you don’t know. Connecting worlds, finding anything including the unknown, and showing you that your language isn’t as big as you thought.

MWM Calendar 2009

Categories: Design

MWM is a super busy man remember I even had to hit him off with the one liner interview. The man hustles 25 hrs a day and his dropped yet again another great project, and colorful might I add. MWM has made a 4 parts poster set calendar marking the 4 seasons of the year. The 2009 calendar is very limited at only 100 sets so you might want to get on the ball and scoop yours now. You can get the calendar and other MWM prints at his online shop or follow him thru his blog.

Flat Bulb

Categories: Design

Things change in life, new things get discovered and bulbs get flattened. Korean designer Joonhuyn Kim designed the Flat Bulb, a flat light bulb. I know, news like that sorta rocks your world kind of like how people felt when they found out the world was round and not flat.

Cardboard Office

Categories: Design

If you’re looking to get your office real eco and very of the “new green” cool movement there’s many options. But I only have one to give you French artist Paul Coudamy constructed an entire office for an Ad Agency in Paris. He created cubicles, meeting rooms, shelves, tables, etc. all out of honeycomb cardboard (no it’s not flavored). To be honest I’m not sure how eco this office setting would be, but I know it would be very cool looking maybe not the sturdiest but cool none the less.

Exploding Bike Lock

Categories: Design, Transportation

Don’t you just hate bike thieves, I mean, their like the scum of the earth right? Taking your bike knowing by doing so it will cause you to have to walk all the way home or find another means of transportation like a cab, bus or subway, don’t they know it’s a recession people can’t afford all that. So, for all you bike riders out there I have a new sorta cool and sorta questionable way to keep your bike a little bit safer. It’s the SmartLock by Michael Lambourn, the concept is easy the bike lock is filled with a colored liquid and if cut that colored liquid will splash on anything in the near proximity meaning the would-be thief would get scarlet lettered in a way, covered in a colored liquid (video of bike lock after jump). The concept is definitely cool in the, “ha, gotcha ass, way” but it doesn’t actually stop the person from cutting the lock, so covered in the liquid an all nothing is stopping that person from riding off with your bike and just washing their clothes when they get home. Will it keep your bike from ever being stolen, not sure, would it be fun at a house party, yes yes yes.

Theresa Honeywell

Categories: Design

Hard knit, it’s the two words that describe Theresa Honeywell’s yarn covered motorcycle. Honeywell is a Washington D.C. native whose work crosses and mixes many mediums, and this motorcycle covered in yarn she knitted is just one example. Take a look at her website and portfolio to get a better understanding of what she’s bringing to the table.

They’re Melting

Categories: Design, Style

To hot too handle, I’m melting, pure hotness, drip drop, sticky icky (ok maybe not stick icky), there are many good as well as corny catchphrases you could use to coin these melting sunglasses by Anna Ter Haar but it be best to just call them what they are, the dripping sunglasses. And while you’re looking around her site go ahead and check out her goldplay as well.

Switch Table-Chair

Categories: Design

The Switch Table-Chair from Belgian designer Ellen Ectors doubles as a chair and table. Meaning it switches back and forth between the both, for the chair put the table on its sides place the ball in the middle and sit. For the table take the ball out and place the table with the flat side facing upward (obviously), it’s easy enough that a kid or this guy could do it.

Socket Man

Categories: Design

The best night-light ever. This little man trying to unplug himself is playful and a designed perfectly. It’s how I feel about gummi bears, I try to pull myself away from them but I never manage too. And it’s fitting that the socket man as I call him was designed by a group who call themselves The Play Coalition.
