I first mentioned Kid Cudi when I told you to download his mixtape, did you? Shame on you if you didn’t but I have a way for you to kind of make that up, just read this interview with Cudi and see if you don’t rush to download the mixtape afterwards. His sound is unique, his lyrics tell segments of his life helping you piece them together, and he’ll have you party rocking easily. So read up learn about who this Kid named Cudi is, he may have left Cleveland to grind in New York, but now Cleveland may want to try and get there forgotten son back, even if they and the world may not be ready just yet for Cudi, no matter, he’s coming regardless so stand attention and make note.

What do you think makes you standout as an artist in today’s overflowing industry of people claiming to be different or claiming to be putting out so called “original” and “new” music?

The fact that its me, and I am an individual…no one can do what I do cause there’s only one Scott Mescudi you know?  Its my story with my own twist on how I look at life…no one else has my thoughts, so that alone is what makes me standout…

What was the inspiration and process behind the track day ‘n’ nite?

Definitely a lot of grindin’ going on at that time in my life…rock bottom for lack of a better statement…I was just dealing with so much and I didn’t know how to cope with it all other than music…I eventually found this melody and it ended up bein’ the canvas for my thoughts to be painted on…for my own sanity I made the record, it helped me…now it can help others…all my music will heal others who have faith.

Tell me about the “kid named cudi” mixtape, what was the concept you were working around and how some of the tracks came to you?

Well it was an idea me and pat were sitting on for awhile…just didn’t wanna rush it and wanted to wait for the right time…we pretty much took our team with it and spit out ideas left and right…it was a collective effort between me, plain pat and emile…we all had ill ideas and it just came together very nicely and eclectic.

What does it feel like performing on stage connecting with your fans and how was the Fool’s Gold tour.

It’s the best thing ever to see kids I’ve never met in countries I’d never thought I’d go to soon sing my songs…every word…the greatest feelin’ in the world, especially casue I’m talkin about somehting powerful…both tours were fun, opened my mind up to a whole new level, its what really made me see this shit was real.

What was the move from CLE to NY like?  What was the transition like?

It was a real simple move at first cause I was this young dreamer who wanted something and went full speed ahead without a care in the world…but then the harsh realities of the leap became very much real to me..the whole struggle part wasn’t something I even took the time to think about thoroughly…so when shit hit the fan it was a hard transition to make cause there were so many soul testing situations and moments I never encountered before…but if you want something bad enough, you can get through anything…just believe that God can and will meet you half way.

And how is the music scene in Cleveland compared to NY?  Especially to a new artist?

I think now its more open minded a lil, back when I was tryna do my thing niggaz minds couldn’t march with mines…couldn’t connect with where I was tryna take shit…but the city is giving cats more of a shot, and listenin’ finally…my city is waking up slowly but surely and I’m happy for that…I’d like to think I’ll be responsible for the complete 180 though.
